What to expect in your first session
Most people arrive at a first session feeling a bit anxious, unsure or even embarrassed. That’s completely normal. My first job isn’t to fix anything. It’s to help you feel at ease.
A relaxed start. We begin with a friendly hello and, if we’re meeting online, a quick check that we can both see and hear each other clearly. No rushing straight into the hard stuff.
A safe, private space. Before we go any further, I’ll explain that what we talk about stays between us. This is a zero-judgement space where you can speak freely.
Young people. Where a parent, guardian or referrer is part of the first session, we agree everyone’s role at the start, so the young person knows they’ll be listened to, not lectured.
Your agenda, not mine. Then I’ll hand over to you, usually with a simple question like: “What’s weighing heaviest on your mind right now?” You talk, I listen, and we start from wherever you are.
